Students that fail from graduation requirement courses will be required to attend summer school (seniors will receive their diploma once they have fulfilled their graduation requirements). Students must achieve an overall cumulative average of 70 or above for all courses to earn credit.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

STAAR testing will start soon.  Although this school year has been challenging, we are confident our students are ready and have the skills necessary to be successful on the STAAR tests.

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) is a state-mandated test that measures students’ mastery of the statewide curriculum at various grade levels in elementary, middle school, and high school.  STAAR End of Course (EOC) tests are administered to students enrolled in the following high school classes: Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History.  All students currently enrolled in these courses as well as students who need to retake exams are required to participate in this testing.  Satisfactory performance on each STAAR EOC test is a prerequisite for a high school diploma.

To ensure equity for all students, The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is requiring all students to take STAAR in a monitored testing session at school supervised by a trained test administrator.  Appropriate public health protocols will be followed during all testing administrations.

To safeguard your child’s success on STAAR, please do the following: make sure your child arrives on time to school after a good night’s rest; is prepared to test, and eats a good dinner the night before and a good breakfast the morning of testing.  Similarly, encouraging your child to do his or her personal best can greatly improve your child’s self-confidence which will lead to better performance.  All testing materials will be provided by the school.  We do urge students to bring a snack to eat during the test.

Following are the dates for the upcoming Spring 2021 STAAR and STAAR EOC exams.

Tuesday, April 6th: English 1 (9th grade)
Thursday, April 8th: English 2 (10th grade)
Wednesday, May 5th: Biology (9th grade)
Tuesday, May 11th: US History (11th grade)
Tuesday, May 18th: Algebra 1 (9th grade)

As a reminder, the campus will be closed to all visitors, including parents, on testing days.  This includes lunch drop-offs.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Please fill out this form for Spring STAAR test planning purposes: https://forms.gle/LH9VP1PumKYHP2ZR6

If you have any questions or concerns about testing, please do not hesitate to contact our Campus Federal Programs and Testing Coordinator Ms. Kerkhofs from ikerkhofs@harmonytx.org.

Sincerely,

HSA Admin Team

You’re Invited!

Harmony Public Schools South/West District is hosting a virtual career talk in partnership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers. It’s happening on Wednesday, April 7th at 5:30 P.M. Students, parents, and staff are all invited to attend.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

STAAR testing will start soon.  Although this school year has been challenging, we are confident our students are ready and have the skills necessary to be successful on the STAAR tests.

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) is a state mandated test that measures students’ mastery of the statewide curriculum at various grade levels in elementary, middle school, and high school.

In order to maintain the security and confidentiality of state tests, communication devices are NOT allowed in any testing area on exam days.  A communication device includes but is not limited to cellular telephones, pagers, music and/or recording/listening devices, earbuds/Airpods, video recorders, cameras, smart watches, computers/laptops, iPods, iPads, organizational tools, Fitbits, other hand-held electronic devices, and any other device that allows internet access, two-way communication and/or recording capabilities.

If a student is found to possess a communication device while inside an active testing room, the test of that student may be voided and would not be scored by the state.  Additionally, these students may face disciplinary action.  Students are strongly encouraged to NOT bring these devices on test days.  Students who forget and bring a device will have the opportunity to relinquish the device to the test administrator before the test begins.  The student’s name will be attached to the device, and it will be returned to the owner once all testing is completed for the day.  Additionally, students need to sign the policy prior to testing stating they understand the rules and consequences regarding cell phone and electronic device usage during STAAR testing.

STAAR test results are used as an accurate indicator of a student’s academic performance.  Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.  Students suspected of cheating may have their tests voided as well as face disciplinary action.  Please discuss with your child the importance of being honest and doing his/her own work.

Following are the dates for the upcoming Spring 2021 STAAR EOC exams.

Estimados padres/guardianes,

  • ABRIL

○      STAAR Alt 2 Ventana de Examen: 29 marzo – 9 de mayo

○      Inglés I: Martes, 6 de abril, 9 grado

Atentamente,

Ineke Kerkhofs

Dear Students, Parent or Guardian:

Harmony Science Academy Houston has provided district-managed Chromebooks over the past year to support the need for students to participate in remote learning as part of our continued response to COVID-19. We know that many families have also utilized personally-owned devices to continue learning for their children. Our goal, regardless of the device a student is using, has been to ensure a safe environment for students to participate in learning remotely. To this end, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered with GoGuardian to continue to meet this goal.

It may be helpful to know that over 10,000 other schools use GoGuardian to protect 5.5 million students across the world, and the Global Educator Institute has endorsed the GoGuardian Teacher product.

How are we using GoGuardian?

We have chosen GoGuardian Teacher services to:

  • Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material
  • Help students stay “scholarly” and more focused when learning online
  • Helping assess students’ progress towards class assignments
  • Facilitating communication between teachers and students during class time

When and how does GoGuardian operate?

GoGuardian’s web-based services operate on our school’s managed Google Suite for Education Chrome accounts (i.e., when a student is logged into Chrome or a Chromebook with his/her school email address).

What are the school’s responsibilities?

Harmony Science Academy Houston selected GoGuardian services to help our students stay safer and more scholarly online. [We will work with students during class time to help teach them digital responsibility and safety.  Additionally, we will train teachers about how to operate GoGuardian and about our policies and procedures to help protect student privacy.]

What are my parental/guardian and child’s responsibilities?

We ask that students uses their school-managed Google accounts and school-managed devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of Harmony Science Academy Houston’s Internet, Computer and Equipment Usage Policy, Bullying Prohibition Policy, student handbook, and the District Technology Agreement.

When a student is off campus, parents are responsible for supervising internet access and usage. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child, and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her.  We also highly encourage you to report any potential cyberbullying or other sensitive issues to us.

How does GoGuardian help protect my child’s privacy?

To help your child remain scholarly and safe online, GoGuardian collects certain personally identifiable information about your child.  GoGuardian has consulted with privacy experts, participates in privacy organizations, is a proud signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, and has been awarded certifications by iKeepSafe for complying with both Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and California student privacy laws.  For more detailed information about GoGuardian, you may visit GoGuardian’s websiteTrust & Privacy Center, GoGuardian’s Product Privacy Policy, and the attached COPPA Notice and Disclosure Form.

We are here to answer any questions that you may have.

Sincerely,

HSA Houston Admin Team
